The nogitsune are emotional and very vengeful. The nogitsune will lose their temper at the slightest provocation. Once someone has earned a nogitsune's enmity, they will begin enacting revenge that can become quite extreme. On the other hand, those who have earned a the nogitsune's trust and loyalty will see a friendship that can last through many trials.
All kitsune have to keep their promises, and especially follow their word of honor. They become self-destructive if they break a promise, and when someone else breaks a promise, they become deadly enemies.
A broken promise will cause a nogitsune to become uncontrollably ravenous until they either obtain their revenge or the promise is fulfilled.
If one wishes to aid them, they must do it of their own free will. Nogitsune don't like asking for help to begin with, so the offerer usually must initiate.
Nogitsune are also a victim of their own feelings. A kitsune's emotions can cause them harm, or distract them.
Nogitsune are notorious for seeing a weakness in someone, and aggravating the weakness, until others see it. To those who are 'immoral', they tend to 'help', making the person more immoral, or guiding the person down the path of self-destruction.
Nogitsune can be energized by the foxfire created by the non-void kitsune.
By using the tails of a kitsune, a nogitsune is capable of taking over a person's mind. While under the control of the nogitsune, the victim is trapped inside a nightmare state. This control can be broken by certain magics, or wards.
Kitsune, when trying to impress a mate, usually creating an array of foxfire with all of their tails. This can and probably will wound and weaken the kitsune.
Usually, the process of posessions appeared similiar to insanity, while the nogitsune fed off the person's willpower. Taking a sleeping or unconscious person, however, usually was a lot quicker, since the nogitsune could invade the dreams, and take its time to sap the will of the target.
There was a third option, which was to possess a child or a teenager, either very young, or one of the unborn. This method the least taxing on the kitsune, and resulted in a hybrid of the nogitsune (or really any type of kitsune) and the person possessed. If possessing a child or teenager, the full possession takes longer, but if pre-born, it's instant.
Some types of void kitsune feed off of scents, some off of blood, some from pain, from chaos and strife, others from tears, and the more dangerous type feed from souls. Some of them require small gifts to sate them, or they would become hostile and dangerous.
Even the Nogitsune considered it rude and improper for someone to get involved in another's matters. Dark kitsune, or Void kitsune, are among the "High" kitsune, and are the opposite of their Celestial counterparts. And, they are always Nogitsune.
Out of all kitsune types, only two are considered evil or 'bad':
The first, kuko, are known to appear as wind, or create mists or fog that hide traps set aside for someone to fall into.
The second, Koryo are also known as ghost foxes or demon foxes and they are savage and bloodthirsty.
The nogitsune are notorious for seeing a weakness in someone, and aggravating the weakness. This does not make them evil, for they are not truly good or evil. Instead, they embody the concept of amoral, those who do not accept, or understand, the idea of Good or Evil, instead, paving the way of balance between the two.
If someone offends what a nogitsune considers "correct," they can become evil, malicious, and disruptive. If someone behaves according to their ethics, they will become kind, and helpful.
If a nogitsune's hunger has become ravenous and insatiable, someone has offended it greatly. Even after the offender has passed, they will continue on their path until their offense is satisfied.
Gengoro was a nogitsune known for having the strength and vitality of three people, and was known to do farmwork, and send messengers for the people he protected.
Genkuro was a kitsune who made found women in Edo, and cut off their hair and shattered their pans.
Tamamo-no-mae was a nine-tailed kitsune, and was responsible for the destruction of a king. She joined his harem, and just to see her smile, the king performed unspeakable acts of cruelty.
After she is discovered, she transformed herself into a large rock in the moor of Nasuno.
In this form, she destroys anything that approaches, causing them to wither and die around her. It takes a man with a magical hammer to finally kill her.
Nogitsune's realm is the essence of nothingness, the absence of everything including darkness, but their powers generally revolve around the shadows and darker materials.
The Nogitsune can cause and feed on chaos pain and strife, summon creatures of darkness using the tails of another kitsune, vanish into shadows, and drain light from areas.
They can also feed upon darkened areas, such as marshes and swamps, leaving behind poisoned waters and dead critters.
Zenko or Yako Kasei are the kitsune of fire. Those born of fire are apt to be quick tempered, constantly moving, and can be somewhat emotional and prone to fits of passionate love or rage.
They create fire, control it, and have all sorts of fun with it – foxfire is particularly easy for them to create. Manipulating also lies within their range of abilities.
Feeding from flames results in snuffing of the fires, and probably leaves behind a thick coat of ash.
The Koryo are said to be one of the 'bad' types and are sometimes referred to as 'ghost foxes' or 'demon foxes'. They are withdrawn from life and nature and can be dark-hearted. They are able to manipulate the spirit realm and the demons and creatures that live inside of it.
They can bind, summon, banish, ward, or trap spirits with relative ease, and they can feed on the spirits of other creatures, hunting and ravaging them, usually devouring them entirely.
Freedom is very important to the nogitsune. They don't like being bound or trapped, and will not accept being forced into something that they don't wish. Trapping the nogitsune weakens it, and is frowned upon by other elemental kitsune. If a kitsune traps another, they are no longer in favor.
"If a kitsune wishes to simply insult you, they will slap you with their tails. Usually this will be on the side or back, because the kitsune tails are similar to a whip.
Nogitsune love playing games and tricks. They like to take things and hide them from people, or do just about anything else to upset balance or cause chaos, pain and strife.
Most if not all Kitsune have things called star balls, which is a small white-gold ball that is a Kitsune's most prized possession, since it is almost like their life force in a ball. It is inside them, but they can remove it and hide it.
If you get your hands on a Kitsune's star ball, you would have the ability to control the Kitsune, and make it do your bidding. However, Kitsune hate being stripped of their freedom, and when the Kitsune gets its star ball back, there will be serious repercussions for you to deal with.
If a nogitsune is treated with respect, it will use it's abilities for the benefit of those who are doing this. This would even extend towards protection.
If a nogitsune offers a gift or reward that includes money or material wealth, part or all of the sum will consist of old paper, leaves, twigs, stones.
If one marries a kitsune, particularly a nogitsune, the kitsune will be devoted and protective. However, if the spouse discovers that their spouse is a fox, they will wake far from their home, dirty and disoriented. If the progeny of such marriages are human, they will possess particular supernatural qualities.
A kitsune's ball of power or starball can be placed inside someone for safe keeping for 100 days. This will connect the kitsune to that person. The ball-host will gain partial strength and healing abilities of a kitsune, and the kitsune will lose partial strength and some of their healing abilities. If the star-ball is removed before the 100 days, one or both will die. If the starball is removed after the 100 days, the kitsune can choose to become human, if they drink the blood of a supernatural.
Most kitsune only take one mate their entire lives, and if the kitsune were truly attached to the human that they married, they might not survive the death of the mate
If a kitsune and a human have twins, they will be the same child in two bodies, the good child and the bad child. Together, they balance one another out and avoid major problems, but if they are separated or allowed to act independently from one another, they can cause havoc. Twins that are sane and can reliably communicate with one another are jealously guarded by their skulk as magic.
The kitsune will tolerate poor behavior towards them as long as they believe that what they are doing is for the sake of learning the skill that they were interested in.
However, if they feel as if they will not learn it or they are being taken advantage of, their wrath will be great and they won't particularly care if the meting out of that wrath hurts others as well.
