Grey's AU - The MRI

Before he actually lays down, Lydia is in the MRI suite with Stiles, holding onto both of his hands. "You know how this works." she tells him gently. "Just keep still and I'll be there the whole time. You'll hear me through the whole thing. Okay?"

He won't lie and say he's not nervous. He's incredibly nervous, and glad that she's here. And really glad he didn't tell his dad he was doing this today. It's going to be freaky enough without worrying about his dad. "I know. I know." Taking a deep breath. "I'm good. It'll be good."

She can feel it coming off him in waves. She has yet to witness a panic attack, but she knows he has them.

She runs her hand through his hair. "I know you will be. And we can do anything you want afterward, okay?" She lets go of his other hand and steps away, heading for the monitoring room.

He's tried very hard not to have one around her. As close as they are, and he thinks they're pretty close, having a panic attack around her is a whole new level. Especially considering this. It's hard, though. Here. Not to have one.

He's pretty sure he's going to have one after the MRI, good results or bad. "Okay." He knows he's being quieter than usual, and he hates that. But. He knows once this is done, it'll all come bubbling up.

He lays back on the MRI table, trying to get comfortable. Difficult.

"Hey, Stiles."

Her voice is soft, despite coming over the MRI's audio system. "Just relax. You know if you move they're going to have to start all over again." There's a pause. "Tell me what you want me to talk about and I will. Anything you want. Or I can read to you. I grabbed a bunch of books from your place."

Telling someone as hyperactive as Stiles can be to stay still was impossible in high school. Now? It's even more difficult. But he does try, and she helps. A lot. "Any new gossip?" Hey, it's something.

"New gossip, huh?" she laughs softly, as the MRI starts to groan and click. "Let's see. Erica in ortho is practically a done deal. I'm pretty sure that Danny and Ethan are getting serious. It's very cute. They hold hands in the hallways."

Aiden must love that, Stiles thinks and yet does not say because he is a smart, smart boy. That has been a little forgetful lately, and he is really hoping that that's just stress. "What about Issac? I heard he's been sniffing after Allison Argent."

That is true. She and Scott are so off again, on again that I think they finally decided they both need to move on. There's that new intern who replaced Jackson...Dr. Yukimura? They've totally been making goo goo eyes at each other. Has he said anything to you?"

He has to really will himself not to snicker a little here. "He said he thinks she's, and this is a direct quote: 'foxy'." Oh, Scott McCall. Stiles loves you, never change.

"That's adorable." Lydia chuckles in turn, then chides, "Keep still. She's nice enough I guess, but I've seen her kind of butt in on other conversations going on in the cafeteria. Let's see...Cora's apparently thinking of transferring into a Doctors Without Borders program down in South America. Derek's been making grumpy cat faces."

"I am." He is doing an admirable job at trying to, anyway. They've only had to restart once. So far. "Derek is grumpy cat. On the side. Moonlighting. I bet their uncle's ecstatic."

"I don't care what his uncle thinks," she says swiftly, and there's a pause before she continues, determinedly cheerful, "You're doing really well, Stiles. We're at the twenty minute mark. Anyway. Did you know Isaac Lahey asked me out once?"

"He did?" Stiles isn't surprised. Like at all. Lydia's great. "Did you go?"

"Nope. I was very full of myself at the time. I told him that when he stopped biking into work on his Schwinn and started riding something with a motor, he could call me." Her tone is playfully. "And now it's too late. Too bad, so sad."

"Oh no, now you're doomed to ride to work in a rusty old amazing Jeep. Whatever will you do?"

"I don't know." she replies mock-vapidly. "Are you planning to drive me to work every day? I do have a car too, you know. And the jeep does have a proper engine, so there's that." A faint smile and she adds, "So listen, you're at the thirty minute mark. And I have incentive for you to finish all the way through, but I can't tell you what it is because I don't want to embarrass my co-workers and make them blush."

"Hey, you could drive me. I'd be great with that. Progressive!" At her other statement? Really difficult not to move, but he manages it. Force of will! "Oh, really? That does sound like pretty god incentive."

"I'm the best incentive, I assure you." Lydia informs him, over the mic, and adds a moment later, "Whoops, the tech is blushing. Sorry not sorry. So where would you like to go after you're out of here?"

"Don't torture the tech, he might not survive it." Soft laugh, as best as he can manage without moving. He really doesn't want to start over at this point. "My place? Your place?"

"You going to be able to wait that long?" she continues to tease, but adds seriously, "Whatever you need, honestly."

"I might be! I've been pretty good at waiting." Smiling, slightly. The noise in the MRI? Starting to get to him, thouh. "How much longer?"

Lydia checks the clock, and determinedly doesn't look at the scan. "Ten minutes. You're doing great. I know you can make it."

"Next time, tell me to man up and take the giant horse pill sedative." Letting out a slow breath. "What books did you even bring?"

She hmms, her gaze straying to the littl stack of three paperbacks.

"Something with Luke Skywalker on the cover, Ender's Game, and...what's Battle Royale?"
