Scott has pretty much been teasing the hell out of him for being basically obsessed with what he's not even sure is a date-date. He'd even suggested to Stiles that he make it a doubles thing with him and Allison, and go bowling. Stiles had nixed that pretty quick. He didn't even like bowling, and he was pretty sure Scott didn't even know how.

Eventually, he figured out where to take her. Somewhere nice that he could afford. He even found nice clothes that didn't look like he'd slept in them while studying. So that's where he's at, mentally, when he finally makes his way to the nurse's station to pick her up.

See, Lydia? He puts thought into things.

She turns when she hears him approaching. How does she even know that it's him? She just does. She checks him out head to toe as he walks toward her, the faintest of smiles on her lips.

"Hey, Stiles."

"Lydia." He smiles at her, and then twirls. Ha, ha? "Well? Fashionable enough?"

She grins back, considering him critically. "You'll do." she tells him playfully. She doesn't ask where they're going. It was his night to plan, and she's going to trust him with it. "I trust I'm up to expectation?"

She's somewhat convinced that she could wear a burlap sack and he'd be okay with it.

He really, really would be. "You look great." He doubts she could ever look terrible. Even if she was sick. He just has severe doubts about that. "Ready to go?"

"I am." she confirms. "I'd ask where we're going but I want to be surprised." She takes his arm though, turning toward the elevators and taking the lead at least in so far as getting to them.

"Not Joe's and not bowling." That much, he'll tell her before they get there. "Mind driving in my jeep, though?"

"That's fine." she says with a vague gesture of her hand. "And I'm okay with both of those as not-options. She's watching him, almost clinically. And for some reason it seems to make her smile.

"Good." Into the elevator, and off to the parking structure. "Not that bowling isn't fun, just...not really that fun." Once they get to his car, he opens the door for her. Gentlemanly.

You'd think he'd offered her a seat on an old fashioned coach, and she lifts herself into the passenger seat like a princess. Of course he opens the door and closes it for her. Of course he does.

"I'm glad you decided to take me out."

It's a Jeep, it's almost like a carriage. Without the horses. Sort of, in a way. Once he's got the car started, he looks at her. "You are? Really?"

He can be a little surprised.

She looks at him with mild surprise at his reaction. "Well, I did suggest it, and it seemed like you were looking for reasons not to. Which conversely seems opposite of what you said you wanted." She cocks her head. "Does the reality of me match whatever you have built up in your head?"

It's not accusatory, but instead curious.

"What do you think I've built up in my head," he counters. He's curious about that, honestly.

[lefthandedgenius]

"I don't know." she admits, leaning back in her seat. "But I'm curious to find out. I want to see if I measure up to however you picture me. And whether that's good or bad." She adds, "But then, I don't think you realize how smart you are."

"I know I'm smart," he protests, mildly. "Not as smart as you, though. I don't think any of us quite measure up to you." It's not a bitter thing, like most of their other classmates. Like Jackson. Someone has to be the best, and why shouldn't it be Lydia Martin?

[lefthandedgenius]

"Do you think I'm human?" she replies. An odd question. "I'm not...you know, no one has a perfect record. Things happen, especially with what we do." She shakes her head. "I'm not perfect."

It's an odd question that gets an odd look once they're at the stoplight. "Well. I don't think you're a vampire? And I know you're not perfect. Nobody's perfect." She dates Jackson for instance. On purpose. "No one expects perfection. Well. No, I guess that's not true. I don't."

"Good." she says, nodding a little and looks over at him. "So why me?"

"Besides the fact that you're gorgeous, brilliant and entirely too good for the likes of me? I don't know, I guess I've always felt...connected to you?" He shrugs and starts driving again. "I'm sure that sounds stupid."

[lefthandedgenius]

She doesn't address that issue. "If I'm not good enough for you, who am I good enough for?" she asks him curiously instead. "And what makes you think I'm not good enough for you?"

Oh, that gets another weird look. "I never said you weren't good enough for me." The opposite, really. "That is not what I meant."

ooc whoops, but rolling with it!

"Right, right. What makes you not good enough for me?" She waves a hand. "I'm tired. That's what I meant."

"What makes you think I am good enough for you?"

[lefthandedgenius]

"Hmmm." she replies, a thoughtful noise that doesn't answer his question. "I don't know the answer to that yet. But I'm trying to find out." She looks at him. "I want to try something different, Stiles. I want to know what it's like to be around someone who doesn't see me as someone to hook up with because they have some kind of idea of what it means to be perfect and I fit within their expectations. I want to be around someone who sees me as me." She turns her head to look out the window.

"I realize that doesn't answer your question, but it's the only answer I have right now. Ask me again sometime, though."

"Well, like I said. I don't think you're perfect. Great, sure. Awesome, even. Who would want perfect? No one can live up to that." Finally parking outside a restaurant. It's not the best restaurant, sort of in between okay and amazing. But it's not fast food, and it's not a bar.
