That gets a tiny bit of a laugh before he thinks about it for a moment, then looks at her. "Exam room?" Quicker, he thinks. Plus he's pretty sure his head is going to explode in a held back panic attack any minute now.

"Okay." She leads him out, with a nod to the tech and the attending. The exam room's just across the hall, and she closes the door behind them both. His clothes are right where he left them.

"That wasn't so bad, was it?"

The second she closes the door, his heart is pounding like crazy in his chest. His fingers and his palms are tingling and he's pretty sure he's swaying on his feet. Enough that when he makes it over to the exam table, he just sort of completely misses sitting down on it. Well. The floor is nice too. "Y-y-yeah. It was fine."

She blinks in absolute startlement. "Stiles?"

She's immediately on her knees next to him. "Are you okay? Are you having a panic attack?" It's different for different people, so asking is important.

If he speaks, he's going to stutter all over the damn place, he knows it. So he just...doesn't. He's having a hard enough time getting in a breath, and he knows this is going to freak her out more than it's freaking him out. And he's the one having the panic attack. He nods, focusing on the floor. On the cold. On her shoes. Anything but the MRI.

"Look at me, just look at me. It's okay. It's over. Look at me, shh." She takes his hands, squeezes them. "I'm right here. You're okay. We're okay. Can you slow your breathing?"

His breathing's just as fast as his heartbeat is at the moment, but he tries. Squeezes her hands in return, and really tries. "I don't...I can't."

She presses her hands to his face, tilting it so he can look at her. Her mind is racing as she tries to remember the various means by which a panic attack can be suppressed.

Suddenly she wraps herself around him, arms, legs, she's like a monkey as she hugs him tightly. She remembers reading that medical journal article by...what was her name? Dr. Dixon? Close contact can help alleviate a panic attack.

Medical journals he's going to need to read because he had no idea. It's certainly helping him, just a little bit at first. Even if he's a little startled. "What...what are you-?"

"Continuous evenly applied pressure with close personal contact can actually alleviate a panic attack." she says, adding, "I read it in a medical journal. Also - " she doesn't finish, instead she kisses him, quite suddenly.

It certainly startles him, though it's not as if she's never kissed him before. But. Circumstances and such. His breath catches, and his eyes widen a bit. But he can breathe, once she pulls back.

"Better?" she asks. She's still more or less latched onto him, arms and legs coiled around his torso, there on the cold floor. He's still got his exam tunic on and she's in a miniskirt, which may be more evident when she tells him tenderly, "Because my butt is cold."

"Better." And a snort of a laugh. "Guess we should get up, then."

She gets up on her feet, holding her hands out to him to help him up if he likes. "Home?" she suggests. "I'm experiencing this extremely strange urge to cater to you for the afternoon and I haven't decided if it's charming or disturbing."

"Home sounds great." He lets out his breath, and takes her hands for help up. "Maybe it's both?"

"Really." she drawls at him as she waits for him to get dressed. She doesn't bother turning around, instead taking a seat on a stool and crossing one leg over the other. Showing a little leg is like a natural response to her environment. "Do you even know why I find it disturbing? More to the point, what would you find disturbing about it?"

He doesn't really mind if she watches him get dressed, at this point, what would be the point of that? So, he gets dressed, thinking about her question. "Well, I wouldn't. Find it disturbing. Why do you?"

"Because with other men I've dated I've cared about them, but I've never felt," there's a pause as she looks for a word, "I don't know. 'Protective' isn't the right term. You can take care of yourself."

She shrugs. "I find myself wanting to do things for you. Seeing a book and thinking you might like it. Presenting at rounds, and thinking 'oh, Stiles would love to see this chart'."

Her brow arches and she stares at him like she's trying to figure out what kind of secret mutant or possibly magical power he has that brought this about. "This is new for me."

That's about how he's felt for her the past...how long? So it doesn't feel as disturbing to him as it does to her. "New isn't so bad, is it?"

"I didn't say that." she replies smoothly. "Adaptation is key to survival, and I'm very good at adapting." Just not so much until recently emotional vulnerability.

This is quite possibly the most roundabout way for her to state she loves him that she could possibly come up with, and hence is typical Lydia.

The thing is, he gets that. Gets her, on some level, and grins at her for that. "You're the best."
