Immediately her fingers are laced into his, her free hand reaching out to stroke his cheek. "The shock's setting in." she tells him gently, her head tilting to lean on his shoulder. "I think so." She's agreeing with him, albeit vaguely.

"What do you want to do when we get back?"

He touches her hair for a moment, fingers carding it a bit. "Thirty second plane crash survival dance party. And you should stay over."

She lets out a soft sound that's sort of a laugh, but is too tired to commit to actually being one. "How am I gonna dance with a bum ankle?"

He thinks about it. "Like this." Vague and at any other time amazingly dorky impression of someone dancing while sitting.

That actually summons a laugh out of her. "That looks unfortunately awkward." she tells him with an absurd sense of fondness. "But I'll give it a go." Her mouth mashes against itself; a habit she has that may or may not have earned her the nickname 'ducklips' out of her hearing. "I don't want to get too far behind in the program."

Right. Here she is, in a downed plane in the woods, and she's worried about keeping up with surgeries.

It's certainly not something he's ever called her. Made faces at other people for, probably. "I doubt that's going to happen."

"I hope not." Her voice takes on the dreamy quality that tends to be the norm when shock is finally settling in. "Talk to me." she says. "Keep me awake. Tell me where you want to be in ten years' time. We need to both stay awake."

"Ten years?" He's assuming best case scenario here. "In a house. A real house. Doing research, maybe. Good research. With a family? What about you?"

Yes, not telling her 'six feet under' is a good plan, Stiles.

"Youngest Harper Avery Award winner in history." she says with a smile. "Maybe a family. A small family. Working to map the human brain."

He has no plans on ever saying that. "That's a pretty nice plan."

[lefthandedgenius]

"Yours isn't too bad." she assures him. "Though right now I'd settle for a hot bath. Can we do that when we get back to your place? After we get out of the hospital. I suspect that's where we'll go first."

"We can do that. Hot bath and sleep, eventually." For days, he suspects.

"We'll sleep for days." she says, echoing his thoughts in that funny way she has. "Except when I'm hungry." she clarifies. "Or you need to pee." She seems to think that's funny, like she'll only do one and he'll only do the other.

He laughs a little. "You eat, I'll pee? Sounds like a stellar plan."

[lefthandedgenius]

"Excuse me, I was just in a plane crash." she mock-snits, "I'm allowed to say things that are completely insensible." She is of course kidding.

"But it can be a group effort!" Slightly teasing, partly trying to keep her talking.

[lefthandedgenius]

She lets out a weak laugh. In the distance, though? Sirens.

She lets out a sigh. "You're a lot stronger than you think. Someone needed to tell you that."

He won't lie. He's relieved to hear the sirens. He bets his dad had something to do with the speed. "You think so?

[lefthandedgenius]

She turns her head so it rests in the crook of his neck and nods. "Didn't anybody ever tell you that bravery isn't not being scared, it's being scared and doing what you need to do anyway?"

He looks at her for a moment. "No, I don't think they ever did."

[lefthandedgenius]

"Well, now you can't say that anymore." she informs him. "And now you know."

"Now I know. And you were pretty damn awesome too, you know."
